Background
David is an associate in our Toronto office and was called to the Ontario Bar in July 2007. He received his Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Ottawa and holds an Honours B.A. in Economics and Biology from the University of Toronto.
As a law student, David received the Blake Cassels Graydon LLP prize in Business Organizations, the Catherine Helen McLean Prize in Labour Law and the Osgoode Society Prize for Canadian Legal History.
Areas of Practice
David is a member of BLG's Insurance and Tort Liability group. He practises in the area of civil litigation including: class actions, product liability, municipal and police liability, occupier's liability, insurance law and personal injury litigation.
Professional Experience
David has appeared as lead or junior counsel on motions, applications, trials and appeals before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal. He has also represented clients in a variety of alternative dispute resolution forums such as mediation and arbitration.
Specifically, David defends municipalities from negligence claims involving maintenance and design of roadways and sidewalks, construction projects and utilities. He defends municipal police forces from actions alleging negligent investigation, false arrest, malicious prosecution and breach of Charter rights. He advises and represents insurers in a wide range of casualty and property claims, including motor vehicle and occupiers' liability claims. He advises and represents insurers in disputes arising from life and critical illness insurance policies.
