David Lowery represents clients in large complex real estate transactions, focusing on acquisitions and dispositions of projects and portfolios, mergers and acquisitions of real estate companies, financings, and joint ventures. He has significant experience in international real estate transactions, as well as distressed asset transactions and workouts.
Recent transactions include Greystar's $2 billion sale of a multifamily portfolio; TriGate Capital's acquisition of a 90 percent interest in Comerica Tower in Dallas; the management-led buyout of CNL Commercial Real Estate; Mill Creek Residential Trust's sponsorship of multifamily build-to-core and acquisition funds; and numerous investments for Whitman Peterson, including the formation of hotel ventures with two leading hotel managers. Prior transactions include the formations of Mill Creek Residential Trust and GreenOak Real Estate; Morgan Stanley's $8.6 billion buyout of Canary Wharf, $6.5 billion buyout of Crescent Real Estate Equities, and $1.5 billion buyout of Town & Country Trust; CalEast's $3.4 billion buyout of Centerpoint Properties Trust; and initial public offerings for several real estate companies including NexPoint Residential Trust, Thomas Properties Group, Interstate Hotels Company, and Great Lakes REIT.
Other clients with which David has worked on substantial matters include Behringer Harvard Funds, HighBrook Investment Management, J. C. Penney, LCOR, Rialto Capital, Rockpoint Group, Spinoso Real Estate Group, and Westbrook Real Estate Partners.
David co-chaired Jones Day's Real Estate Practice worldwide for more than 15 years. He is a member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. He is currently an adjunct professor in real estate at SMU Dedman School of Law and frequently speaks on topics related to real estate private equity.
