David J. Pryzbylski became interested in labor relations early on in high school, having grown up next to several of the largest steel mills in the world. Fittingly, Mr. Pryzbylski now is a member of Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Labor & Employment Department. Building on his life-long fascination with labor law, Mr. Pryzbylski concentrates his practice on traditional labor matters. Specifically, he routinely assists clients with developing union-avoidance training, drafting collective bargaining agreement provisions, developing collective bargaining negotiation strategies, decertifying and withdrawing recognition from unions, developing arbitration strategies, responding to unfair labor practice charges, defending employers in representation elections, trying cases before the National Labor Relations Board, and appealing National Labor Relations Board Orders to Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal. Mr. Pryzbylski also is a member of the department's strategic response team, which helps clients face emerging union issues.
In order to maintain a well-rounded practice and offer a "full range" of labor and employment services to his clients, Mr. Pryzbylski also regularly defends employers in employment matters alleging wrongful discharge, discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, breach of contract, and other employment-related claims, including the classification of workers as independent contractors under various state and federal laws. Mr. Pryzbylski has litigated the classification of workers as independent contractors in various states around the country. In addition, Mr. Pryzbylski counsels employers on day-to-day human resources issues to assist in promoting "best employment practices." In recognition for his employer-defense work, David was named a "Rising Star" for Employment & Labor by Super Lawyers in 2012.
Mr. Pryzbylski earned his B.A. summa cum laude from Wabash College in 2005, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. While attending Wabash College, Mr. Pryzbylski served as the president of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, served as a class representative on the Student Senate, and won the David W. Peck Award, an honor that recognizes the most outstanding pre-law student in the class. He also studied in France on two separate occasions and remains conversationally fluent in French.
Mr. Pryzbylski earned his J.D. summa cum laude from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2008. While in law school, Mr. Pryzbylski became a member of the Order of the Barristers in recognition of his distinction during the school's moot court competition, served as an editor on the Indiana Law Review, was a Dean's Tutorial Fellow, and received a pro bono award for work he did in New Orleans for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Mr. Pryzbylski is admitted to practice law in the state of Indiana and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana. He is a member of the Barnes & Thornburg's Recruiting Committee.
