David M. Kight is a Shareholder in the Kansas City office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Mr. Kight's practice focuses primarily on non-compete and trade secret enforcement. Mr. Kight represents some of the largest employers in the country from diverse industries. His representation includes drafting, analysis and enforcement of restrictive covenants in employment and franchise agreements. His experience in his field has enabled him to prevail on his clients' behalf in some of the most challenging jurisdictions across the country. In addition to his non-compete practice, Mr. Kight also has significant experience in employment and traditional labor matters where he has years of highly-successful experience defeating union organizing attempts. He also assists his clients with management of existing union relationships. Mr. Kight is licensed to practice in Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas and has obtained his Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR ) certification. He is a recognized and author and speaker on employment, labor and social media issues.
Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Mr. Kight practiced for 14 years with regional law firms in the Midwest and most recently served as Labor and Employment Practice Group Leader at a large Midwest law firm. For four years following law school, Mr. Kight was a Senior Labor Consultant for a national labor and employment consulting firm focusing on traditional labor advice, human resource training and human resources advice.
Mr. Kight was the 2006 - 2008 Chair of the Missouri Bar's Labor and Employment Law Committee. He was awarded his law degree from the University of Louisville-Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, where he served as Managing Editor of The Brandeis Brief. He served on the American Bar Association-Law School Division Board of Governors where he received the ABA-LSD Gold Key Award. He received the Alex A. Hotchkiss Award from Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. He received his bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina- Charlotte, where he was Senior Staff Writer at The 49er Times.
Mr. Kight is licensed to practice in Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas and has obtained his Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR ) certification. He is a frequent author and speaker on employment, labor and social media issues.
