David Millard is Chair of the Corporate Department of Barnes & Thornburg LLP. He is a partner in the Indianapolis, Indiana office.
Mr. Millard counsels large-cap, middle-market and high-growth businesses, as well as venture capital and private equity funds. His practice includes providing services in connection with acquisitions and sales of businesses, joint ventures, collaborations, strategic alliances, rollups and industry consolidations, leveraged buyouts, divestitures, capital raising and business finance, strategic planning, business restructurings, fund formation, and commercial contracts. Mr. Millard represents high profile businesses across a wide array of industries including biopharma, biotech, medical device, life sciences, health care, retail, manufacturing, alternative and renewable energy, health care IT, cloud computing, and information technology.
Mr. Millard has helped many clients implement their growth strategies globally, including companies headquartered outside of the United States that do business in the U.S. and U.S. clients that do business around the world. This work has involved numerous acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances and collaborations both in the U.S. and with partners in numerous countries. He has assisted clients doing business in Japan, Russia, China, Brazil, Germany, the Ukraine, Dubai, Jordan, Poland, England, Central and South America, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Taiwan, Belgium, Canada and South Korea.

Fueled by a passion for improving the business environment around him, Mr. Millard has dedicated himself to organized efforts to support middle market and high growth businesses throughout the areas in which he works. He has served as President of The Venture Club of Indiana, one of the largest venture clubs in the world, as well as the Entrepreneur's Alliance of Indiana, and has been Chair of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Business Council. Mr. Millard has also served on the Board and the Executive Committee of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Millard has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® from 2000-2012 in the fields of corporate law, leveraged buyouts, private equity law and venture capital, and he has been listed in Indiana Super Lawyers® magazine from 2004-2012, He is ranked among the top corporate/M&A attorneys in Chambers & Partners' Chambers USA 2012 directory. Mr. Millard received the Supporter of Entrepreneurship Award in the Indiana Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in 1997. In 2002, he was named Volunteer of the Year by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Millard has been a columnist for the Indianapolis Business Journal for many years.
Mr. Millard graduated with highest distinction in 1977 from Indiana University School of Business and received his J.D. magna cum laude in 1979 from Indiana University School of Law. He was a member of the Order of the Coif and an editor for the Indiana Law Journal. Mr. Millard is married and he and his wife, Pamela, have five children.
