David Curtis is an associate in the firm's oil and gas litigation group. Within the environmental section, Mr. Curtis represents clients in matters involving legacy oil fields and property contamination, lease and pipeline matters, and other petrochemical and refinery related litigation. His experience also includes commercial litigation, with an emphasis on contracts and cases involving collection, bankruptcy, creditors' rights, construction, and real estate matters. Mr. Curtis has likewise represented clients in insurance defense and products litigation. Finally, as a prior Naval Officer, Mr. Curtis serves clients in admiralty and maritime cases.
Prior to the practice of law, Mr. Curtis served as an Officer in the United States Navy from 1999 to 2003. He served onboard the destroyer USS RAMAGE (DDG 61) during Operation Enduring Freedom in the Afghanistan War, and onboard the aircraft carrier USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Mr. Curtis is a recipient of the Navy Achievement Medal for excellence in leadership and tactics. Before military service, Mr. Curtis attended Vanderbilt University, where, in 1999, he received his Bachelor of Science in Economics with a concentration in finance.
Mr. Curtis received his Juris Doctorate in 2006 from the University of Mississippi School of Law. During law school, he served as the Moot Court as the Trial Competition Co-Chairman, and as an editor of the National Journal of Space Law. Also while attending law school, Mr. Curtis worked as a legislative constituent coordinator for Senator Thad Cochran for the State of Mississippi, and as an extern for United States District Judge Michael P. Mills in the Northern District of Mississippi.
