Dennis is based in Augusta, Maine where he provides patent services through the Eaton Peabody Patent Group, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the general law firm Eaton Peabody PA. His current practice includes patent application preparation and procurement for inventions in the areas of industrial processes, business methods, and mechanical, electrical, electronic, computer-related, and software-related inventions.

After obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University in 1990, he began his patent career in the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) as a U.S. Patent Examiner. He subsequently left the USPTO and obtained his Law Degree in Concord, New Hampshire from Franklin Pierce Law Center which has consistently been ranked in the top 5 law schools in the United States for the last decade.

Within private practice, Dennis has served as in-house patent counsel for Nortel Networks, in Ottawa, Ontario. After Nortel, he remained in Ottawa where he managed the patent department of Shapiro Cohen. Subsequently, Dennis served as U.S. patent counsel within the national Canadian law firm of Borden Ladner Gervais. He returned to Maine in 2006 where he maintained his ties with Borden Ladner Gervais and his Canadian client base from his successful solo patent practice which he operated until joining Eaton Peabody Patent Group in May 2008.

He has provided patent advice to companies and individuals throughout Canada and the United States within a diverse assortment of technologies ranging from food science to transportation. His technology-related services has included intellectual property management and licensing support for a broad spectrum of technical processes, products, and advanced technologies. As well, Dennis is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He is a dual citizen of both the United States and Canada and has lectured on the topic of patents to trade groups and inventor organizations in both countries.

Dennis offers patent services in conjunction with Eaton Peabody's Intellectual Property Practice Group which is chaired by Jonathan B. Huntington, working with Bernard J. Kubetz and David M. Austin. The Group advises and represents clients in matters involving the existence, ownership, protection and exploitation of patent, trademark, copyright, and other intellectual property rights. Together, they form a team to secure copyright and trademark registrations and procure patents for clients in the United States, Canada, and many foreign countries. The Group also represents clients in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings in the Patent and Trademark Office and as plaintiffs or defendants in patent, trademark, and copyright infringement actions in state and federal courts. Contractual control of intellectual property is an important part of the work of this Group, including drafting and enforcing licensing agreements, publication and derivative works agreements, non-competition agreements, and agreements for the exploitation of jointly-owned works. In addition, the Group counsels clients in the area of trade secrets and has been successful in establishing insurance coverage and defense obligations for clients faced with infringement claims.
