Dennis Yee practises taxation law as an associate lawyer at the Vancouver office of Davis LLP. His practice focuses on tax planning and tax litigation with respect to income tax and commodities tax (which includes federal and provincial sales tax, goods and services tax and customs duties).
Among Mr. Yee's current and recent engagements, he has:
· Provided advice regarding goods and services tax (GST) and British Columbia provincial sales tax (PST) as a member of the counsel team advising a global engineering and construction company entering into a public-private partnership to construct an additional Skytrain (light rail commuter) line in Vancouver, BC;
· Participated in an appeal to the Federal Court of Appeal on the issue of whether a contribution to a registered charity qualifies for income tax credit when representations were made to the taxpayer of possibly receiving a tax receipt exceeding the amount of the contribution;
· Participated in several cases challenging assessments from the Canada Border Services Agency under the Customs Act by judicial review or appeal to the Federal Court of Canada.
Prior to joining Davis in 2004, Mr. Yee spent 12 months in Ottawa serving as a judicial law clerk for the Justices of the Tax Court of Canada.
