Donahoo, Ball & McMenamy, P.A. was founded in 1938 by Ernest W. Mitchell and John W. Donahoo as Mitchell and Donahoo (partnership). It was the first law firm in Jacksonville, Florida to specialize in tax. In 1944 the firm name was changed to Mitchell, Donahoo & Rogers with the addition of William T. Rogers, tax attorney. Following the death of Ernest Mitchell in 1948, the firm continued to specialize in tax law as a partnership. In 1966 Donahoo's son, Thomas Mitchell Donahoo, joined the firm after receiving his masters of laws (in taxation) from New York University School of Law. The firm name was changed to Donahoo, Donahoo & Ball, P.A. in 1982 with the addition of Haywood M. Ball, real estate attorney. In 1986, William B. McMenamy, former CPA and Florida Bar Board Certified in tax, joined the firm. In 1994, Thomas Mitchell Donahoo, Jr., representing a third generation, began his practice in tax with the firm. The firm continues to specialize in taxation and encourages Florida Bar Board Certification, masters degree (LL.M. in taxation) or strong accounting, financial, or tax background. The primary areas of practice continue to be wills, trusts, estates, corporate and real property affected by the Federal income, estate and gift taxes in these areas.
