Don Mihokovich joined Adams and Reese following the firm's expansion into Tampa. He has been practicing law since 1990 with experience as a litigator in all phases of the litigation process, including both federal and state trials, appeals, mediations and arbitrations. His practice includes complex business litigation, business disputes, real estate litigation, homeowner's associations, deed restrictions, intellectual property litigation, covenants not to compete, products liability, insurance and construction litigation.
In real estate work, Don had the unique pleasure of not only representing commercial and residential real estate developers in protecting their vested development rights, but also in representing a major homeowners' association in successfully preventing multiple developers from building up to 222 residential units on an existing private golf course and driving range.
His other representative experience and professional achievements include:
· Successfully defending patent infringement cases by aggressively pursuing invalidation of the plaintiffs' patents, thus putting the patent holder's entire business at risk, resulting in favorable settlements for his clients.
· Member of The Florida Bar News/Journal Editorial Board and has written for a Florida Bar Publication entitled Florida Civil Trial Practice.
· Member of both Phi Beta Kappa and the Golden Key National Honor Society. While in law school, he was Articles Editor of The Akron Law Review.
Don is a volunteer trial judge for the Hillsborough County Teen Court Program which is a pre-trial intervention program for first time teen offenders, designed to help ensure that they make better choices and do not become repeat offenders. Don has been recognized by the Supreme Court of Florida, the Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar, and the Florida Pro Bono Coordinators Association for exceptional pro bono service, and has accepted a three year appointment to serve upon the 13th Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee "B."
An avid chess player, Don prefers intellectually challenging cases that require him to think several moves ahead, and he recalls his greatest legal achievement was recently winning a complex real estate trial that several other lawyers had told his clients they could not win.
In addition to playing chess, Don's personal interests also include baseball. He is a volunteer Pony manager and has coached many youth baseball teams in a socio-economically disadvantaged area with players from ages 8 to 18. He also helped organize a successful chess club at a Boys and Girls Club and belongs to various chess associations. He is a member of Mensa, the High IQ Society.
