Douglas M. Hershman (Doug) is a director at Bayard. Doug currently serves as Chair of the firm's executive and associates committees.
Doug leads the firm's diverse real estate practice, representing clients engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry throughout Delaware and its surrounding states. His practice has included representations of both buyers and sellers of commercial and residential real estate, as well as borrowers in financing transactions. Doug also represents lenders making commercial real estate loans. He handles transactions involving both commercial and residential properties, including retail shopping centers, office buildings, apartment complexes and residential subdivisions. He is a licensed issuing agent for Fidelity National Title Insurance Corporation and Old Republic National Title Insurance Company.
Recently, Doug was selected to serve as general counsel to the Delaware Apartment Association. In this role, Doug directs and administers all legal aspects for the Association.
As a member of the Delaware State Bar Association's Real and Personal Property Section, Doug previously served three terms as Chairman of the Section and many years as a member of its Executive Committee.
Doug has been actively involved in the Home Builders Association of Delaware and serves as a Life Director of the Association. He was recently appointed as a member of the Legal Action Committee for the National Association of Home Builders. He is a past recipient of the Associate Member of the Year award from the Association. Doug is currently serving on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau of Delaware. He serves as Board Member of the Delaware Military Academy. He also continues to serve on the Board of the Wilmington Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO).
He has been recognized as a leading attorney in the field of real estate law by both Chambers USA (2006 through 2011), Delaware Super Lawyers (2007 through 2010), and Lawdragon 3000 (2006 through 2011). He is Vice President/President Elect and a member of the Board of Governors of the University & Whist Club of Wilmington, Delaware, and serves as a volunteer arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau's binding arbitration program for real estate disputes.
