| Biography | Mr. Sarapa's practice focuses primarily on freedom to operate analyses, due diligence, and opinion counseling in anticipation of litigation arising from the filing of Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs) under the Hatch-Waxman Act. He has drafted numerous independent patent infringement and validity opinions spanning a wide variety of small molecule technologies, including small molecule compound structures, their salts, enantiomers, formulations, polymorphs, methods of use, extended release technologies, and combination treatments. Mr. Sarapa also counsels clients on patent and regulatory matters, including interfacing with science and legal personnel regarding design around and prior art analyses, monitoring competition and industry development for litigation and product development strategies, and coordination with the FDA. In addition, he has located consultants and expert witnesses and worked with them on developing litigation positions. Prior to joining Mendelson IP, Mr. Sarapa worked for three years as an associate at Foley and Lardner LLP, where he represented several start-up and major generic pharmaceutical companies. Mr. Sarapa also brings expertise to his practice gained from over two years of experience working for Pfizer as a research and development organic chemist. Mr. Sarapa received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. While there, he served as an Extern for the U.S. District Court in Eastern Wisconsin. Mr. Sarapa earned his bachelors degrees in chemistry and biology from the Illinois Wesleyan University, where he graduated summa cum laude and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies. As an undergraduate he was twice published for his research on bismuth reagents. Mr. Sarapa is fluent in Serbian and Croatian.
