Mr. Glas' practice focuses on diverse aspects of commercial law, including the representation of creditors/debtors in bankruptcy court, resolution of partnership disputes, asset recovery, advising purchasers of assets in bankruptcy proceedings, and the litigation of complex matters in federal and state courts. Mr. Glas has successfully prosecuted appeals before the Second Circuit and federal district courts hearing appeals from bankruptcy court decisions.
Mr. Glas has represented financial institutions, leasing companies, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, developers, manufacturers, partnerships, telecommunication companies, and other corporate and individual clients.
Representative cases include numerous commercial foreclosures, lender liability claims; the litigation of the right of lenders to rents in bankruptcy court; the prosecution of modifications to collective bargaining agreements on behalf of a debtor in bankruptcy pursuant to 11 U.S.C. Section 1113, which entailed three days of life testimony; the defense of an energy company in an adversary proceeding in bankruptcy court in the Northern District of New York regarding a trustee's claims of fraudulent transfers in connection with a leveraged buy-out of the debtor entity; the recovery of assets on behalf of a financial institution defrauded as a result of a check-kiting scheme; the defense of a leasing company in an adversary proceeding filed in bankruptcy court in the Eastern District of New York by a trustee seeking to recover payments made under a lease with a debtor who masterminded a large fraud in connection with purchase and lease-back transactions; the defense of numerous companies in adversary proceedings in bankruptcy alleging preferential transfers under the Bankruptcy Code; representation of different creditor entities in bankruptcy cases dealing with setoff rights, relief from stay, assumption and rejection of leases, reclamation rights and allowance of administrative expenses.
Prior to practicing law, Mr. Glas received a PhD in European history from Columbia University and authored The Formation of Bilbao's Modern Business Elite: 1850-1900 (University of Nevada Press, 1996).
