The firm’s MANAGING ATTORNEY, Mr. Hopkins focuses his practice on defamation, intellectual property, and invasion of privacy litigation. He represents individuals, institutions, and businesses whose reputations, careers, brands, or goodwill have been wrongfully devalued or harmed due to others’ false, misleading, or deceptive statements. He also represents individuals and businesses whose intellectual property, personality, publicity, or privacy rights have been infringed or violated. He will consider litigating employment discrimination or sexual harassment cases involving acts of defamation, invasion of privacy, physical assault, or rape that shock the conscience.
A First Amendment proponent, Mr. Hopkins agrees that everyone is entitled to express their opinions or report verified facts to the public subject to only a few limitations. Skilled, ethical, and diligent investigative reporters, journalists, newscasters, and even bloggers play important roles in a healthy democratic republic.
Since the average person lacks the time, resources, or ability to fact-check everything, Mr. Hopkins also agrees that no one has the right to publish false or misleading statements to the public. No one has the right to wrongfully obtain or abuse private information or trade secrets. No one has a right to misappropriate intellectual property. Individuals, media companies, and other profit-seeking businesses harm the public and violate others’ legal rights when they do it. Their unlawful conduct can corrupt our elections, hinder rational economic decision-making, and thwart fair business competition. It can also give rise to defamation, intellectual property, or invasion of privacy claims. Mr. Hopkins holds accountable people and businesses who abuse the public’s trust and harm his clients in the process.
Prior to beginning his legal career, Mr. Hopkins was a U.S. Air Force acquisitions officer, defense industry entrepreneur, and management consultant. He has supervised and trained dozens of employees, managed hundreds of millions of dollars, and worked in several countries. He and his wife raised a son and daughter together. Both are college graduates. Their daughter is a foreign language instructor. Their son is a military officer. Mr. Hopkins enjoys lifting weights, reading, watching Air Force Academy Football, and dating his wife.
