Biography

Ed practices as Counsel in the firm's litigation section, focusing his practice in the areas of complex commercial and torts litigation, health care litigation, insurance law and government investigations and enforcement.

Ed brings over four decades of litigation management and trial experience to Burr & Forman. He served as Executive Vice-President and General Counsel of Caremark Rx, Inc. (NYSE CMX) from 1998 until the company merged with CVS in March, 2006. He also served as a member of the Caremark Board of Directors. He continued to serve as a consultant to CVS Caremark Corporation (NYSE CVS), one of the largest pharmaceutical services companies in the United States after joining Burr & Forman. Before joining Caremark, Ed served as Senior Principal in the Birmingham law firm of Hardin & Hawkins. During his legal career, he has served as lead trial counsel in over 200 civil jury trials in federal and state courts. For over 20 years, Ed served as Special Assistant Attorney General and represented the Alabama Department of Public Safety in multiple litigated matters and investigations.

Many civic activities decorate Ed's years in the legal and health care communities. Ed also serves on the Board of Trustees for his alma mater, Birmingham Southern College. In addition, he is a founding member of the Board of Directors for both the American Sports Medicine Institute and Children of Slain Police Officers, a foundation which provides college scholarships for children of Birmingham police officers killed in the line of duty. Ed is also on the Board of Directors for 2010 for Oasis Counseling for Women & Children, which continues to fill a critical gap in mental health services in the Greater Birmingham community by offering women and children affordable counseling services on a sliding fee scale.

Ed is recognized as a Diplomate and Life Fellow of the American Board of Trial Advocates and has served as a member of its National Board. Currently he serves as President of the Alabama Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
