Edward is heavily involved in designing and implementing defense strategies in Hatch-Waxman litigations. He continues his more than 30-year specialty of client counseling and patent solicitation in chemical and biochemical areas. Ed has prepared letters of opinion and prosecuted patent applications in the U.S. and abroad in areas such as radionuclide separations, peptide library preparation, pharmaceutical molecule syntheses, medicinal preparations and treatments, polymers such as acrylic super absorbents, monoclonal antibodies, cosmetics, oligosaccharides, enzyme processing of bio materials, nucleic acid assays and genetically engineered microbes, animal cells and plants.
Edward became an attorney after spending four years as a chemist for a large cosmetics manufacturer and another four as a post-doctoral fellow and research fellow associate. During his 12 years in the laboratory, he synthesized small molecule dyes and polymers, studied reaction kinetics, and conducted research in the synthesis, characterization and reactivity of synthetic enzyme-like polymeric molecules. He often applies his laboratory experience to assist clients in expanding their patent horizons.
Ed is the chair of the Intellectual Property Life Sciences practice group. Before joining the firm, Edward was a partner at another firm, where he chaired the chemical/biotechnology practice group.
