Biography

Professional Experience

Beth Alquist is a trial attorney who represents a broad range of business clients in patent, trade secret, noncompetition, trademark, copyright, and Internet-related disputes. Beth has tried over a dozen cases to verdict, including patent infringement, trade secret, and non-compete matters, among others.

Beth is currently the chair of the Intellectual Property Department and the past chair of both Women Working Together and the firm's Diversity Committee.

She served as law clerk to The Honorable Robert J. Callahan, Connecticut Supreme Court, 1994-1995.

Representative Matters

· Currently counsel for major toy company in defense of patent infringement case pending in the Western District of Texas involving adaptive frequency hopping technology

· Currently counsel in defense of trade secret allegations for major beverage company

· Currently counsel in patent infringement cases relating to medical devices and printer/cutters

· Obtained consent decree of non-infringement for a major toy company in defense of a patent infringement case pending in the Central District of California

· Obtained ex parte injunction in trade secret case involving high-level executives in insurance industry

· Successfully defended preliminary injunction hearing for life insurance company in trademark infringement case in the District of Connecticut

· Defended to verdict patent infringement and invalidity claims on behalf of a multinational corporation involving small brushless direct-current motors

· Successfully defended trade secret and noncompetition case, receiving ruling from the bench after trial in favor of defendant company that had hired plaintiff's former employee

· Prosecuted trade secret and noncompetition case, resulting in consent judgments within months, where 11 former employees of a company purchased in bankruptcy attempted to compete in violation of their agreements

· Developed strategy with major pharmaceutical company to police its trademarks on the Internet

· Federal court and state court trials in defense of age, sex, and race discrimination claims, as well as breach of contract, wrongful discharge, and other common-law causes of action
