Elizabeth H. Yip* is a partner in the Vancouver office practising in the Real Property and Planning Group and the Municipal Group. Her practice is focused on commercial real estate. She has been extensively involved in acquisitions and sales, development, rezoning and permit approvals, real estate financing and commercial leasing.
Her experience includes:
· acting for the master developer of the UniverCity Community at Simon Fraser University, an award-winning sustainable community;
· acquisition and development of shopping centre sites in Surrey, Langley, Vernon, Cranbrook, Prince George and many other communities in British Columbia, for a national shopping centre developer;
· development of office buildings and office parks;
· development of multi-phase, master communities;
· acting for major developers of condominium projects, including phased and mixed-use (including airspace) projects;
· development of resort properties;
· extensive dealings with many local governments in British Columbia in the rezoning and approval process;
· transactions with national big box retailers;
· acting for commercial landlords and tenants in the preparation and negotiation of leases;
· acting for national U.S. timeshare operators;
· acting for borrowers in financings for income properties and condominium developments; and
· acting for the purchasers of major hotels.
Ms. Yip has spoken and written extensively on strata properties and the development and structuring of sustainable communities.
Ms. Yip joined the firm in 1992. She received a BA in Political Science from the University of British Columbia (1984) and an LLB from the University of Toronto (1987). Ms. Yip was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1992 and the Ontario Bar in 1989.
Ms. Yip is fluent in Cantonese and reads and writes Chinese. Ms. Yip is a member of Vancouver CREW.
Ms. Yip is the recipient of the 2011 Associate Mentor of the Year award from the Vancouver office of McCarthy Tétrault LLP.
