Eric Stockman regularly represents hospitals, doctors and local practice groups, as well as individual and corporate defendants, in all aspects of litigation, including medical malpractice, commercial liability, premises liability, trade secrets, and products liability. Attorney Stockman has tried dozens of cases to successful conclusions, including medical malpractice, wrongful death, wrongful imprisonment, assault, sexual assault, fraud, wrongful termination, employment discrimination and premises liability. In April 2011, for example, he obtained a defense verdict on behalf of local hospital, its nurses, and security staff, in a claim for damages arising out of the alleged theft of an epidural medication pump from a patient in labor. Attorney Stockman also successfully defended the Oram v. Decholnoky case, a birth injury claim that resulted in a defense verdict for his client and Connecticut-record judgment of $38.5 million against the co-defendant. He also handles appellate work, and has briefed and/or argued cases before the Connecticut Supreme and Appellate Courts, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Representative decisions include Grey v. Stamford Health Systems, Inc., 282 Conn. 745 (2007) (upholding summary judgment on behalf of local hospital); Zeilinski v. Kotsoris, 279 Conn. 312 (2006) (same); Doe v. Christoforo, 87 Conn. App. 359 (2005) (successful defense of medical malpractice, sexual assault and breach of contract claim against internist); Law v. Camp, 116 F. Supp. 2d 295 (D.Conn. 2000), aff'd., Law v. Camp, 15 Fed.Appx. 24, (2d Cir. 2001), cert. denied, Law v. Camp, 534 U.S. 1162 (2002) (successful defense of wrongful death claim against internist and nine other defendants); and Treglia v. Zanesky, 67 Conn. App. 447 (2001) (successful defense of fraud and quiet title claim against five landowners).
Attorney Stockman has been rated AV-Preeminent by his peers. He has been named to Connecticut Magazine's Super Lawyers edition for 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 and New England Super Lawyers edition for 2007-2011. He was also recently inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Representative clients include The Stamford Hospital, Yale-New Haven Hospital, and Honda-North America. Attorney Stockman was admitted to the state and federal bars in Connecticut in 1994; the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in 1998, and the U.S. Supreme Court in 2002. He joined Neubert, Pepe & Monteith in 1998 after practicing at Wiggin & Dana in New Haven, CT. Attorney Stockman attended Fairfield College Preparatory School, then graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude from the University of Connecticut in 1989, with a distinction in Political Science. He earned his law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law (UConn), with Honors, in 1994. At UConn Law School, he was the Commentary Editor of the Connecticut Law Review, publishing Constitutional Gerrymandering in the summer of 1993, Vol. 25, p. 1227-1264. He was also the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in Trial Practice.
Attorney Stockman regularly presents seminars on evidentiary issues for the New Haven County Bar Association. He has presented on risk management/litigation issues before the New England Society for Healthcare Risk Management, the Connecticut Society for Healthcare Risk Management, and the Lukan Indemnity Company. He is a member of the Connecticut and New Haven County Bar Associations, the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, and the Connecticut Society for Healthcare Risk Management. Attorney Stockman has volunteered for a number of local civic organizations, and currently sits on the Board of the Monroe Education Foundation, a 501c3 corp. whose purpose is to raise private funds to benefit public education.
