Background
Eric Lapierre is a counsel in our Montréal office. Mr. Lapierre was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1999 after graduating from the Law faculty of the Université de Montréal in 1997.
In 1994, he received a Bachelor in economy from the Université de Montréal. The same year, Mr. Lapierre completed the Canadian Securities Course and, in 2008, the Partners, Directors and Senior Officers Course offered by CSI Global Education. He is fully bilingual in English and French.
Areas of practice
Mr. Lapierre practices securities law in our national Investment Management Group. He works chiefly with investment funds.
Professional Experience
In his professional capacity, Mr. Lapierre:
· advises investment fund managers, portfolio managers, insurance companies and other capital market stakeholders on various legal issues, including the creation and management of financial products (such as mutual funds, pooled funds and segregated funds);
· advises investment funds, insurance companies and reporting issuers on issues related to corporate governance;
· assists investment funds and reporting issuers in the preparation of their annual continuous disclosure filings;
· advises various industry stakeholders on regulatory developments, and represents them before government authorities; and
· advises various capital market stakeholders on registration, ethics and compliance, and other regulatory issues.
Before joining our team, Mr. Lapierre was Chef du service des fonds d'investissement at the Autorité des marchés financiers: in that capacity, he was in charge of the team that revises prospectuses, applications for exemptions and continuous disclosure filings of investment funds. He was also responsible for various regulatory development projects that concern investment funds. Previously, he was director and legal counsel of one of Canada's most important investment funds corporate group.
Mr. Lapierre was a member of various national and international committees on investment funds, investment management and systemic risks.
Mr. Lapierre is an experienced speaker in particular on many issues concerning investment funds.
