Erik G. Weidig is senior counsel with Foley & Lardner LLP. He is a member of the firm's Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Construction and Bankruptcy & Business Reorganizations Practices. Mr. Weidig handles all types of litigation matters, with a particular emphasis in real estate litigation, land use and entitlement issues, and property law.
As part of his real estate litigation practice, Mr. Weidig represents clients before local planning boards and boards of appeal and adjustment on a wide variety of zoning and land use issues, including variance, conditional use and rezoning applications, as well as before all levels of the court system in certiorari challenges to board decisions. In addition, Mr. Weidig advises municipal corporations regarding their ordinances and related land use and zoning issues. Mr. Weidig also represents clients in commercial real estate foreclosures and various other actions relating to real property, including commercial real estate sale and lease disputes, evictions, adverse possession actions, and challenges to the exercise of eminent domain powers.
In addition to his real estate litigation practice, Mr. Weidig commonly represents creditors in state and federal insolvency proceedings, in particular, preference actions and other adversary proceedings under the Federal Bankruptcy Code and Chapter 128 of the Wisconsin Statutes.
A member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, Mr. Weidig received his bachelor's degree cum laude in 1998 from Marquette University. His J.D. degree was conferred magna cum laude in 2001 by the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he was elected to The Order of the Coif and was managing editor of the Wisconsin Law Review. He is admitted to practice in Wisconsin as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.
