Erik Arena has been practicing Family Law exclusively since June of 2005, when he completed his Judicial Clerkship with the Honorable Dennis M. McHugh of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland. Erik's practice includes representing clients in all aspects of Family Law, including adoptions, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, child custody and paternity matters, child support actions, domestic violence and peace order actions, and divorce matters, including spousal support/alimony and the identification, valuation, classification, and division of marital and non-marital property. His hallmark is his creativity - irrespective of the forum (negotiation, mediation, or litigation), Erik is always searching for innovative and cost-effective solutions to each family's unique circumstances.
Erik graduated both college and law school with honors, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from Bucknell University in 2001 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland in 2004. Since high school, Erik has actively served his community, logging countless hours of community service with the Boy Scouts of America, and through pro bono representation of indigent clients with the University of Maryland School of Law's Clinical Law Program, for which Erik received two awards for distinguished service (The Public Service Award in 2004, and the University of Maryland Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Diversity Recognition Award in 2005).
Erik was named a "Rising Star" in the area of Family Law by Super Lawyers Magazine for 2010, 2011 and 2012, and was selected by his peers to be the Co-Chair of the Family Law Section of the Bar Association of Montgomery County for 2010-2011. Most recently, he was chosen to be a member of the "Bar Leaders" of the Montgomery County Bar Foundation in 2011.
