Biography

Everett Bunnell is a partner in the Calgary office of Norton Rose Canada. In 40 years of litigation experience, he has been involved in a number of claims involving the oil and gas industry, ranging from environmental liability claims, pipeline/refinery contamination problems and drilling, production and processing issues.

Mr. Bunnell also has experience in product liability claims on behalf of insurers, as both defence counsel and subrogation counsel. Other insurance experience involves professional errors and omission claims and business interruption losses. As the chair of the aboriginal law practice group, Mr. Bunnell also has been extensively involved in various environmental issues and disputes concerning claims in respect of land and water advanced by native groups in Alberta.

Mr. Bunnell was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1988, and joined Norton Rose Canada as a partner in January 2001.

ˇ A subrogation recovery of multi-million dollar losses to gas processing plant resulting from adjacent plant fire

ˇ Defence of various product liability cases, including battery fire tubes, motorcycle tires, ill rubber roll coverings, electrical power relay switch, drilling blast joint, labour table steel stirrup

ˇ Defence of various healthcare professionals' malpractice claims

ˇ Representation of British Columbia in the Court of Appeal in Reference Case concerning the constitutionality of the Goods and Services Tax

ˇ Defence of negligence claims against various other professional groups

ˇ A multi-million dollar subrogation recovery for OSB mill losses resulting from a railway-caused forest fire

ˇ Resolution of environmental claims resulting from a gold mine's sodium cyanide spill

ˇ Defence of claims against a private highway maintenance contractor

ˇ Defence of claims based on marine insurance policies

ˇ Defence of life and disability claims
