The firm, formerly Fenton & Fenton, was founded in 1947 by Edgar R. Fenton (1890-1977), who has already established a successful law practice, his son, Elliott C. Fenton. The firm's practice was initially concentrated in the areas of surety law and the defense of wide range of personal injury, property damage and related insurance coverage matters. The Fentons were later joined by William G. Smith (1919-1993), Dale Reneau and Milton Moon. (1921-1988) and the firm became known in 1965 by its current name. Although only one of the original partners, Reneau, is in active practice, the firm has retained the name Fenton, Fenton, Smith, Reneau & Moon, in honor of the tradition and reputation established in the legal community by its founders. Elliott Fenton maintains his association with the firm as "of counsel." Fenton, Fenton, Smith, Reneau & Moon has since grown to 28 lawyers licensed to practice in both state and federal courts in order to meet the needs of its many local, regional and national clients. Offices are located in Oklahoma City, in the center of the state. However, litigation statewide has been handled by its lawyers. The firm recently had litigation ongoing in 55 of the state's 77 counties. Those cases varied firm personal injury, medical malpractice and product liability, to environmental, constitutional and employment law. A growing field of concentration is in the area of insurance "bad faith" litigation and employment law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and employment discrimination. Four of the firm's lawyers practice workers' compensations law, appearing in both Oklahoma City and Tulsa state workers compensation courts. Four counsel engage primarily in property and land title work.
