About this office:
FSI is an extraordinarily high profile firm based in central London with a dynamic team of approximately 80 lawyers. The firm prides itself on its high partner ratio which ensures clients have the full attention of partners who know the detail of their matters - clients won't find their work being pushed down three levels away from the partner they first met. FSI's structure also means lawyers and trainees get exceptional supervision.
In FSI's case size does matter, being a smaller firm means FSI can give their people and clients a very different experience, ideal for any individual or organization that appreciates the service and support you receive from being a big fish in a smaller pond.
The firm
What's surprising about the firm is the range of expertise that exists - which includes a niche practice advising individuals on the enforcement proceedings issued by the FSA to being the primary advisors on Europe's largest compulsory purchase order to date. The firm also has the author of 'VAT on Property Transactions' as the head of its tax team. These specialist skills feature on top of the more obvious property, corporate (particularly AIM), employment, media and IP specialisms you might expect of the firm.
8 practice areas support businesses and high net worth individuals, many of whom are non-UK based: property, corporate & commercial, litigation, intellectual property & media, employment, private client, family and personal injury. The firm also has significant strength through its sector teams covering leisure & retail and education particularly.
Types of work undertaken:
Commercial property: The past year has seen the department yet again grabbing the headlines - whether it be for its work advising the Tragus Group on a 14.15 million Pound acquisition, its work in relation to the relocation of some 100 businesses in the Olympic zone or its continuing high profile work for X-Leisure, the UK's largest leisure fund ever. The property team is 'full service' and has dedicated property litigation, planning and construction teams.
Corporate & commercial: Having recently been ranked in the top 10 for AIM deals by Legal Business, it's not surprising that the department has particular expertise in the AIM field. In addition, deals in the leisure sector continue to abound with the firm advising on the recent sale of the insurer Zenith Group to Guardian General Limited.
Litigation: Clients come from all corners of the globe and a wide variety of sectors, recently the team have dealt with significant disputes in the telecoms, education and property fields. Within the litigation team also sits the personal injury group who advise on high value claims, particularly in relation to the construction industry.
IP Media: Advising on contentious and non-contentious IP, the department continues to have one of the best reputations around - authors, international news corporations and businesses concerned about protecting their brand and reputation all flood to the team. High profile work has recently been undertaken for The Wall Street Journal and the team is becoming increasingly known for their work in the fashion and retail sectors.
Employment: Keeping clients and colleagues abreast of the latest changes is never easy but through the team's e-alert service this has been achieved. With employment law changing regularly, the team is always exploring new issues and advising their high profile client base accordingly. Particularly recognized recently for their significant expertise in injunction work.
Private client & family: High net worth individuals from many walks of life seek the support of our lawyers with often complex, high-value estate planning and offshore tax structuring as well as sensitive matrimonial and family disputes that need careful handling. The team regularly advise those based outside the UK and in the financial services or entertainment fields.
