Francis Torrence is a seasoned litigator who has first-chaired trials in California state and federal courts and argued appeals before the California Courts of Appeal and the Ninth Circuit. Francis has extensive experience in the areas of life, health and disability insurance as well as intellectual property litigation.
For more than 20 years, Francis has represented insurers in denial of benefits claims, first-party bad faith insurance litigation and ERISA matters arising in connection with group and individual life, health and disability policies. His insurance practice includes property and casualty claims as well.
Francis also has full-service intellectual property litigation capabilities to complement Wilson Elser's growing national practice in this area. He represents clients in intellectual property litigation involving trade secret, trademark, copyright and patent disputes.
In addition, Francis has been engaged by clients to handle a wide range of complex commercial disputes, including Unfair Business Practices/Section 17200 claims, both within and outside of his insurance and intellectual property concentrations.
Francis has particular knowledge of and experience with Daubert expert issues as well as obligations relating to electronic discovery and the preservation of data in connection with federal court litigation.
