BiographyMr. Mendelsohn's practice focuses in five primary areas: complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution; litigation involving wills and trusts; labor and employment law; market channel matters involving dealers, distributors and sales representatives; and the general representation of middle market business.

Mr. Mendelsohn has been involved in a wide range of complex commercial litigation matters, from shareholder and other business ownership and governance disputes to complex patent and international customs litigation, anti-trust cases, and professional malpractice litigation. Mr. Mendelsohn regularly represents clients in matters involving financial transactions, intellectual property matters, including the protection and enforcement of proprietary business information, such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and related covenants-not-to-compete, licensing agreements and protective agreements. He regularly appears before and tries cases in courts and other forums across the country.

Mr. Mendelsohn has extensive experience in litigation involving wills and trusts, focusing primarily on the representation of individual and corporate fiduciaries. These matters range from petitions involving the construction and validity of wills and trusts, actions seeking instructions and accountings, actions involving undue influence claims, breach of fiduciary duty claims as well as the interpleader of assets subject to disputes as to interests, rights and ownership. Mr. Mendelsohn frequently appears in state court (both probate and chancery courts) and federal court in these matters.

A significant portion of Mr. Mendelsohn's practice involves labor and employment matters, including the defense and prosecution of a wide-range of employment law cases, including those before administrative, state, federal and appellate courts, the handling of all legal aspects of union organization efforts, including matters before the National Labor Relations Board, as well as the arbitration of disputes between labor and management interests pursuant to collective bargaining agreements. In connection with this aspect of his practice, Mr. Mendelsohn has negotiated numerous collective bargaining agreements, and has conducted and participated in litigation matters relating to union organizational and decertification elections.

Mr. Mendelsohn holds a B.A. from Brandeis University, where he graduated cum laude in Economics, and was awarded his J.D. from Marquette University Law School in 1986. In 1992, Mr. Mendelsohn earned an LL.M. in Taxation from The John Marshall Law School. He is also an adjunct faculty member of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and regularly speaks and authors on legal topics for various trade groups and magazines. Mr. Mendelsohn was admitted to the bars of Wisconsin and Illinois in 1986, to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, including the Trial Bar, in 1991, and to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, as well as courts across the United States, on particular cases pursuant to local rules.

Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Mendelsohn was a partner in a mid-sized commercial law firm, where he practiced for 15 years, and prior to private practice served as an Assistant State's Attorney in the Financial and Government Fraud Task Force of the Cook County State's Attorneys' Office.
