Biography

Fred Cornish is a veteran lawyer whose practice is focused on the litigation and transactional needs of businesses of all sizes and whose broad career experience and knowledge base has qualified him to serve like outside general counsel for numerous local and regional clients. He is routinely called upon to advise clients on day-to-day legal and operational matters and best practices, resolve workplace and business-related disputes, and assist clients in achieving their business objectives.

Fred's counseling and transactional practice encompasses every phase of a business's life and includes entity formation and organization, corporate governance, contract drafting and negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, financing, construction and development and real estate.

His litigation practice experience is equally diverse and includes the areas of administrative proceedings, complex commercial disputes, condemnation, construction, directors' and officers' liability, oil and gas, insurance, intellectual property, medical malpractice, professional liability and real estate. He also counsels clients on workplace matters arising from the employer-employee relationship.

In addition to having extensive experience as a commercial litigator in state, federal and appellate courts, Fred has developed special expertise in the niche areas of higher education law and forestry-related litigation. Most recently, he has served as lead litigator responsible for protecting the forestry operations in southeast Oklahoma of Weyerhaeuser Company and Oklahoma Timber, LLC.

A portion of Fred's practice is also devoted to representing clients in probate, estate planning and guardianship matters.

Throughout his long and distinguished legal career Fred has served as the Oklahoma commissioner to the National Conference on Uniform State Laws (1986 - 1995), as chairman of the Oklahoma Board of Mental Health (1980 - 1982) and as a temporary appointed judge to the Oklahoma Court of Appeals.

Fred is also a founding member and past president of Tulsa CASA, Inc., an organization which provides guardians ad litem for abused and neglected children and advocates for the best interests of deprived children assigned to the Juvenile Division of Tulsa County District Court. Fred's efforts to advocate for children's legal rights run deep. In 1980, he prevailed as lead counsel in a landmark case before the Oklahoma Supreme Court. As a result of that decision, Oklahoma children requiring court-appointed counsel became entitled to free legal representation either by a public defender or an independent attorney compensated by county court funds.
