Rick McKnight heads the Los Angeles Office's litigation practice. His practice focuses on complex litigation, including successful bench and jury trials involving antitrust, bankruptcy, business tort, contract, entertainment, environmental, ERISA, fraud, health care, insurance, intellectual property, oil and gas, product liability, securities, toxic tort, trade secret, and tax matters in such venues as Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston, Miami, Wilmington, Palm Springs, Seattle, Orange County, Anchorage, and Washington, D.C. Rick also has been active in alternative forms of dispute resolution and has obtained settlements in excess of 1 billion dollars. He has recovered and defeated substantial punitive damages awards and defeated class certifications.
After a three-month jury trial of a significant bellwether case, Rick obtained a complete defense verdict for Yamaha Motor Company among a series of product liability claims relating to alleged rollovers of recreational utility vehicles. He was recognized by The National Law Journal in 2012 as Winning Litigator - Hot List.
Rick represented DirecTV in a $75 million patent/commercial dispute recognized by the Daily Journal as one of the Top Plaintiff's Verdicts of 2010.
Rick represented Dole Food Company in the five-month trial of the claims of Nicaraguan banana workers alleging sterility caused by exposure to pesticides on Dole's farms. Of the original 42 plaintiffs selected from thousands of claimants worldwide, only four were awarded damages for far less than plaintiffs' costs. Even these awards were later vacated.
Rick lectures on trial and pretrial practice and procedure for a number of organizations. He serves on the board of directors of St. Vincent Medical Center.
