| Additional Bio Details | Mr. Compton's practice is focused in the area of school law representing boards of education in a variety of matters including, but not limited to, labor relations, negotiations, mediation, employee discipline, employee evaluations, student and parent rights, public records law, open meeting law, administrator employment matters, special education, grievance and arbitration proceedings, reductions in force, parliamentary procedure, election and levy matters. He has exclusively represented school districts and boards of education for over thirty years in Ohio state courts (trial, appellate and Supreme Court) and the federal courts (Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and U.S. Supreme Court) in matters such as alleged discrimination, health benefits during a strike, student discipline, employee discipline and dismissal, reductions in force, public records, open meeting laws, and special education.
In addition to his involvement in school-related litigation in the state and federal courts, he has experience in labor mediation and arbitration under the auspices of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) and the American Arbitration Association (AAA). Mr. Compton has negotiated numerous collective bargaining agreements with professional (teachers) and support personnel on behalf of boards of education during his career utilizing a variety of negotiation methods including, but not limited to, traditional, interest-based bargaining, and fact-finding.
Mr. Compton regularly gives speeches and in-service presentations to school district personnel and members of boards of education throughout Ohio. He also is extensively involved in the daily counseling of school district leaders concerning a myriad of topics ranging from labor/employee issues to student and employee discipline and other areas requiring preventative advice. |
