Gabriel "Gabe" Crowson is a Member in the firm's New Orleans office. Gabe is a commercial litigator focusing on class action defense, consumer financial services litigation, and creditors' rights litigation. He has litigated a variety of commercial matters around the country in both state and federal courts, as well as before various arbitration venues.
Class Action Defense
Gabe has represented clients in the financial industry in connection with private class action suits in state and federal courts, as well as cases that have been consolidated as part of MDL proceedings. He has also defended clients that are the subject of investigations and enforcement actions by state regulatory bodies. Gabe's class action experience includes claims asserted under a variety of consumer fraud laws, including the Truth in Lending Act, the Credit Repair Organizations Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, state unfair trade practices statutes, and state credit services organization laws. In addition, Gabe has significant experience in litigating issues concerning the Class Action Fairness Act and has actually written several articles and presented lectures on the impact of that law on class action practice.
Consumer Financial Services
Gabe has represented the financial industry in litigation for more than eight years, having obtained the dismissal of several lender-liability suits for banking clients. Likewise, he secured the dismissal of multiple class action cases based on federal banking preemption principles. As part of his consumer financial services litigation experience, Gabe has developed an extensive appellate practice, having authored merits briefs in the Fourth, Fifth, and Seventh Circuits, as well as a variety of state appellate courts.
