Biography

Gabrielle Moisan specializes in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications and the rendering of opinions in the field of life sciences.

She is a registered patent agent in Canada and in the United States.

She also provides opinions with respect to validity, infringement, freedom to operate and patentability, in cases of due diligence and with respect to the management of patent portfolios. She also assists with drafting contracts and implementing internal policies for companies.

Gabrielle Moisan advises her clients so that they can best protect their interests and assets while taking into account their respective commercial realities.

Her clients consist of small, medium and large companies, both from Canada and abroad, who are involved in fields such as:

· Pharmaceuticals

· Biotechnology

· Agrifood

· Cosmetics

· Plants

· Chemistry

While studying biochemistry, Gabrielle Moisan undertook a research internship studying the molecular biology of plants at Université de Montréal, and another internship studying oncogenic viruses at the Pasteur Institute in Paris.

She later completed a Masters in cellular biology at the Cancer Institute of Montreal. Her studies focused on lung cancer.

As a law student, she participated in an exchange program with Université La Sorbonne in Paris, where she studied for one year. She then obtained her Patents and Trademarks Diploma from the Centre for International Industrial Property Studies (CEIPI) in Strasbourg, France, a training center for engineers and jurists who are interested in pursuing a career in intellectual property in France.

Gabrielle Moisan began her career as a lawyer in our office in 1998. She then worked for 7 years in the intellectual property department of an important Canadian biotechnology company, where she was responsible for managing patent portfolios in the field of vaccines. She has thus acquired a broad understanding of companies' needs in the domain of intellectual property, including: the effective strategy and financial management of a patent portfolio, the protection, transmittal and publication of experimental data, drafting contracts such as confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements and collaboration agreements, and even choosing a trademark in the field of biotechnology.

She also worked for two years at a major intellectual property firm in Montreal before returning to ROBIC in 2008.

Gabrielle Moisan is a member of the life sciences committee and the training committee at ROBIC. She is also assistant editor of ROBIC's quarterly newsletter.

She is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), where she is involved in the Biotechnology Patents Committee, the International Patents Issues Committee and the Intellectual Property Trade Policy Committee.
