Gail Wong is Director, Student Programs (Ontario Region) and has responsibility for all aspects of the Toronto office's student program, including the recruitment, supervision and professional development of summer and articling students and liaising with law schools. She is the Chair of the Firm's Toronto Student Committee and also sits on the planning committee for the Firm's annual Women Connecting Conference held for women law students.
Prior to joining McCarthy Tétrault as Director of Student Programs, Gail practised corporate law at McCarthy Tetrault's Toronto office from 2003 to 2006 and subsequently joined the international finance group at Clifford Chance LLP, in London, England. She has a keen interest in the mentorship and professional development of law students and actively mentored trainees during her time as a banking lawyer in London.
Gail is an active participant in a number of groups including the Diversity Working Group (Canadian Section) of the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) and sits on the Board of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL). She also works on a number of law school liaison diversity initiatives throughout the year including the Firm's sponsorship of and participation in the Out on Bay St. Conference and the annual FACL education conference.
Gail has been interviewed by Precedent Magazine and Canadian Lawyer 4Students Magazine to provide her insight on the legal recruitment market and on the articling student experience.? She also recently participated as a panellist in the Law Society of Upper Canada's "Diversity in the Workplace" seminar.
Gail holds an LLB from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law (2002), and a BA (International Relations) from the University of Toronto (1999). She was called to the Ontario bar in 2003 and qualified as a member of the Law Society of England & Wales in 2007.
