Practice/Industry Group Overview
GJTBS is a Construction Litigation law firm with clients throughout the construction industry, including general contractors, sub-contractors, architects, engineers, developers, owners, product manufacturers and suppliers--and the companies that insure those businesses. Our construction litigation cases have dealt with a variety of government and privately-owned properties, including hotels, schools, port facilities, government buildings, medical activities, condominiums and residential properties.
The businesses and insurance carriers in the construction industry face distinct challenges that require construction litigation attorneys with experience in the litigation, negotiation and resolution of often complex construction defect disputes. As such, we have accomplished construction litigators in each of our offices for whom construction litigation is a principal focus of their practice. We have served as panel counsel to several of the leading insurers in the construction market for many years. Consequently, we have been involved in many complex multi-party construction litigation cases with millions of dollars at issue. Our clients have realized success in the courtroom, at arbitration, and in mediation.
We know that construction litigation matters often involve substantial defense costs that stem from numerous depositions, the retention of multiple experts, and extensive motion practice, in addition to insurance coverage issues that frequently accompany the underlying suit. To address that, construction litigation attorneys must be focused and precise, aggressive but deliberate--all with a constant eye toward containing costs and effecting a timely resolution of the dispute.
To be effective advocates, we must be involved in the industries that we defend. By doing so, we learn the nuts & bolts of the industry and acquire a comprehensive understanding of the legal and risk management issues that confront our clients on a daily basis. As such, several of our construction litigation attorneys work as active members of the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), New Orleans Chapter, Houston Chapter and Mississippi Chapter, and as part of the Defense Research Institute Construction Law Committee.
We also devote our firm's wherewithal to providing educational opportunities to the construction industry. We present legal and risk management seminars to contractors and design professionals, which serve to reduce the frequency of claims and provide a powerful defense when construction litigation arises. We are also frequent lecturers to claims professionals, in-house counsel and underwriters nationwide on legal issues that impact the successful litigation, mediation and arbitration of construction law claims. In addition, we have authored published papers on the Americans with Disabilities Act.
