Gardere Wynne Sewell’s Maritime Finance Practice is a result of a merger with Houston’s Sewell & Riggs and Haight Gardner Poor & Havens’ Houston office, firms with substantial and long-standing expertise in the area.
The Maritime Finance Team handles transactions involving all aspects of the maritime and offshore energy industries including: secured loans; equipment leasing; Title XI guaranteed debt financings; sales and purchases of vessels and drilling rigs; maritime liens; registration of vessels and perfection of mortgages under U.S. law and in major open registries such as Liberia, Panama, Vanuatu, the Marshall Islands and the Bahamas; and, mortgage enforcement proceedings in ports all over the world.
Additionally, partners in Gardere’s Corporate and International Practices with experience in mergers and acquisitions, tax law, intellectual property law, and securities law are able to assist in sophisticated transactions requiring these specialties. The Firm’s Admiralty Practice Group also assists in maritime related workouts, foreclosures, charter party disputes, and maritime lien litigation.
