A member of the firm's Real Estate, Development & Construction industry team, Gary brings decades of experience to his clients' legal needs in acquisition, zoning and condemnation issues and related litigation.
Among his recent accomplishments are these:
•Representing numerous national companies, including McDonald's, Hertz, Burger King and Shell Oil and their franchisees, to secure rezoning from county or municipal governments and the granting of conditional-use permits.
•Advising regional banks and commercial/residential developers - such as Pace Properties - in all aspects of retail, housing and office developments, including site acquisition, leasing, land-use permits, tax increment financing and other incentives.
Gary is a frequent speaker on a variety of real estate development issues, such as the use of tax increment financing, transportation development districts and urban redevelopment corporations.
Distinguishing himself in zoning work and public/private partnerships, Gary was cited by Chambers USA as “a results-oriented lawyer who is always good to work with” and “effective before planning and zoning boards, securing permits and tax incentives for his developer client base.” Gary has written extensively on redevelopment, tax abatement, tax increment financing and related development incentives. He is an adjunct professor at Washington University School of Law where he teaches Commercial Real Estate Practice, Negotiations and Drafting and Advanced Legal Writing.
