Gary J. Lieberman practices in the Litigation Management Department, where he focuses in the area of employment litigation defense of single plaintiff employment lawsuits, including employment lawsuits filed nationwide against a Fortune 200 company.
Gary's litigation experience includes the defense of employers in federal and state employment and labor laws, including discrimination, retaliation, discipline, defamation, wrongful discharge, contract disputes and collective bargaining matters. In addition, Gary is skilled at mediation of disputes and conflict resolution.
•Gary successfully defended financial institutions in arbitration claims filed by registered representatives before FINRA alleging defamation (Form U5), wrongful termination and other employment-related claims. Obtained a complete dismissal on behalf of a financial institution before a FINRA arbitration panel of a claim filed by a former broker who alleged wrongful termination, promissory estoppel and negligent misrepresentation.
•Gary has consistently prevailed on summary judgment on behalf of a Fortune 200 company in discrimination, retaliation, harassment, alleged violation of the FMLA, breach of contract and various other employment claims brought before state and federal courts.
•Gary recently obtained summary judgment in federal court in Pennsylvania in favor of a major financial institution on claims of race discrimination and retaliation brought by a mid-level manager.
•Gary obtained dismissal of claims of age discrimination brought in Illinois State Court against a large financial institution.
•Gary recently obtained summary judgment on behalf of an employer in Ohio State Court alleging disability discrimination and retaliation.
•Gary recently obtained dismissal of claims of intentional infliction of emotional distress and defamation in Ohio State Court.
•Gary prevailed on summary judgment on behalf of an employer in a race discrimination and retaliation claim in United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan.
Before Edwards Wildman
After law school, Gary joined the General Counsel's Office of the Federal Labor Relations Authority, where he prosecuted labor and employment violations in the San Francisco and Chicago Regional Offices. Gary was named the Regional Litigation Specialist for the Boston Regional Office.
Besides Edwards Wildman
Gary is an avid cyclist who has raised money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute by riding in the Pan Mass Challenge, a 200-mile bike ride. Gary and his wife spend much of their leisure time coaching their two sons in baseball, basketball and life's lessons.
