Family law
We help people going through a divorce. Where possible, we strive to protect our clients and refrain from antagonizing tactics. We take this approach in all aspects of our family law practice-in issues such as child custody and visitation, property division and enforcement of rights, including spousal and child support.
Child Support
Child support is often a major issue in a Suffolk County divorce. The amount of support is determined by using the New York State Child Support Standards in effect at the time of your divorce. For combined incomes up to $130,000, the amount a non-custodial parent pays is based on gross income, less certain deductions. That amount is then multiplied by the following percentages:
One child-17 percent
Two children-25 percent
Three children-29 percent
Four children-31 percent
Five or more children-No less than 35 percent
Child care, medical and educational expenses are added to the income percentage amount. Your Suffolk County divorce attorney can work to ensure that child support awards are fair and enforced.
Child Custody
Child custody determinations address both physical custody and legal custody. Physical custody refers to where a child lives. Legal custody refers to the right to make the major decisions in the life of the child. When parents are unable to resolve issues of child custody, a court decides the issues for them. In making custody decisions, a court examines a number of facts to determine what is in the best interests of the child.
A divorce attorney in Suffolk County can assist you in your quest for child custody and advise you on the best way to proceed with a custody claim. If needed, our firm will fight aggressively to protect your rights to see your child.
Personal injury
If injuries prevent you from visiting our office, we can arrange to visit you at home or in the hospital. We are committed to providing our injured clients with a high level of quality representation. Our personal injury practice includes helping those who have been injured in car accidents, on dangerous properties and in construction accidents.
Business law and commercial litigation
Our business law practice provides a full line of legal services ranging from business formation to commercial litigation. We help aspiring and existing business owners succeed.
