Geof Master has extensive experience in sourcing transactions, including the outsourcing (on-shore, near-shore and offshore) of information technology and services as well as of business processes and procurement, and strategic (supply chain) sourcing. His experience in the area of information technology procurement and outsourcing transactions includes transactions involving IT infrastructure services and support, applications maintenance and development, network management and support, telecommunications services, and help desk / call center functions, as well as implementation and integration of major enterprise applications and systems and cloud computing. His experience in the outsourcing of business processes includes outsourcing of human resources / employee services, finance and accounting functions, procurement, recruiting, logistics, collections, call centers / customer relations management, e-commerce processing and support, and other business processes and functions. He also regularly works with data privacy and data security issues.
Geof has represented clients in a wide range of industries, including financial services, health care, insurance, consumer products, telecommunications, advertising and publishing, airline, manufacturing, chemical, energy, information technology, and forestry products, as well as government sector entities. Geof's clients have ranged from start-up enterprises to national and global firms and governments. He has lived in Europe and Asia and worked across all geographies.
Prior to joining Mayer Brown in 2001, Geof spent over a decade working for Electronic Data Systems Corporation (now HP) in various senior legal capacities, including five years as international general counsel with responsibility for all legal support requirements of EDS' non-US business. He was also previously an adjunct professor in business planning at The University of Texas School of Law and General Counsel and Secretary to The Capital Markets Company, an international consulting services firm focused on the financial services industry.
Geof has been praised for his excellent business sense - his business judgment is as valuable on points as his legal judgment, and for being very quick to realize what the issues are, so when it comes to negotiations, he always meets the other side's arguments head-on (Chambers USA 2007).
