Biography

George Basara represents management in both traditional and non-traditional areas of labor and employment law providing counsel to both union and non-union employers.

He regularly advises his clients in the areas of unlawful discrimination, collective bargaining, employment agreements, arbitration, restrictive covenants, maintenance of union-free workplaces, and day-to-day human resource matters, including the hiring and discharge of employees. He assists large and small companies in developing proper policies and practices aimed at avoiding costly employment-related litigation. He also supports human resources personnel in their decision-making processes.

As part of his practice, George prepares handbooks, termination notices and employment agreements and often presents seminars to clients' supervisory personnel on the subjects of workplace discrimination, hiring and firing practices. George has experience in the area of labor relations and has:

· Negotiated labor agreements for corporations of various sizes.

· Operated as national labor counsel for two Fortune 100 corporations.

· Represented employers before the National Labor Relations Board across the United States.

· Arbitrated discharge and contract interpretation grievances.

· Handled restrictive covenant matters in both state court and arbitration settings.

· Advised clients in the restructuring of their workforce and coordinated reductions in force.

· Provided day-to-day human resources advice to human resources personnel.

· Guided employers through the union election process.

He also advises employers on the best business methods to help them maintain union-free environments.

George's clients reflect a broad spectrum of enterprises, including heavy industry, transportation, communications and many of the high technology businesses that have rapidly developed throughout Western Pennsylvania. He represents clients before the National Labor Relations Board, as well as before state, federal and appellate courts in litigation, including strike injunction actions, unfair labor practices, equal employment and the enforcement of restrictive covenants.

In 2006, George was honored by the Labor Relations Institute as one of the "Top 100 Labor Attorneys" in the United States.
