Background
George Hunter is a Senior Partner in the Ottawa Office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. He graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts and from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University with a Doctorate in Jurisprudence. He was called to the Bar of the Province of Ontario in 1974. He is a member of the Ottawa General Litigation Practice Group.

· Engaged in a broad spectrum of practice including matters related to professional negligence and discipline, commercial litigation, administrative law, various areas of negligence, hospital administration and family law.
Professional Experience
· Has appeared before all levels of courts in the Province of Ontario, Federal Courts and the Supreme Court of Canada.
· Has appeared on various occasions as counsel for the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
· Has participated in several Royal Commissions and Inquiries, most recently the Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities.
· Special Advisor to the Minister of Justice in connection with the Special Senate Inquiry into the Pearson Airport Contracts.
· Counsel to the Ottawa General Hospital, 1982-1998.
· Former Alternate Chair, Mental Health Review Board of Ontario.
· Elected a Bencher (Director) of the Law Society in 1999 and re-elected in 2003.

- Chair, Professional Development and Competence Committee - Oversaw complete revamping of the Ontario articling process and Bar Admission Course
- Chair, Interjurisdictional Mobility Committee - Implemented interprovincial mobility for lawyers in Canada
- Law Society of Upper Canada Representative on Attorney General's Committee that resulted in the introduction of contingency fees in Ontario
· Treasurer (President) Law Society of Upper Canada, 2005 - 2006.
· President, Federation of Law Societies of Canada, 2005 - 2006.
- Appeared on behalf of the Federation before the House of Commons and Senate Committees considering anti-terrorists and related legislation
Professional and Community Activities
· Lecturer at the University of Ottawa in the area of Civil Procedure.
· Served as a senior course instructor for many years at the Bar Admissions Course, Ottawa.
· Past Chairman, Bar Admission Course programs in Ottawa, in civil procedure and advocacy.
· Member: The Advocates' Society, Ontario Bar Association, Canadian Bar Association, County of Carleton Law Association.
· Has presented numerous papers on a variety of civil litigation related topics to various Continuing Legal Education programs of the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada.
