Background
George was born in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1953. He received his Bachelor's degree with high honors from Eckerd College in 1975 and received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1978.
From 1978 to 1981, George served as a Law Clerk and Executive Assistant to Chief Justice Alan Sundberg of the Florida Supreme Court. George practiced law with Carlton, Fields, Ward, Emanuel, Smith and Cutler until 1987. At Carlton Fields, George concentrated his practice in administrative law and health care regulation, particularly Certificate of Need regulation.
In 1987, George opened the Tallahassee office for Rumberger, Kirk and Caldwell. George continued his administrative law and health care practice at Rumberger. In 1990-1993, Thom Rumberger and George represented the Republican Party of Florida in Florida's Redistricting Litigation. George also practiced extensively in the areas of product liability, professional liability, employment law and appellate litigation.
From 1994 through the present, George Meros has served as special counsel, lobbyist and spokesperson for Florida 's business community, advocating improvements and reform to Florida 's civil justice system. In 1997, he testified as an expert witness before the Texas legislature on Civil Justice Reform matters.
More recently, George has represented Florida businesses before both the Executive and Legislative Branches in opposition to proposed legislative authorization of civil liability suits against health maintenance organizations.
He has litigated, both at the trial and appellate level, medical malpractice cases, nursing home cases, certificate of need administrative hearings, product liability and civil rights cases, and constitutional claims. George has also represented Florida hospitals on Medicaid regulatory issues, and health maintenance organizations before the Department of Insurance.
George and the firm had the honor of representing the Bush/Cheney campaign in the 2000 Florida election battle. George and the firm also represent Governor Jeb Bush in pending litigation, as well as the Florida State Board of Administration.
