Glenn B. Gruder is a Partner in the firm's Litigation Group. He joined Certilman Balin as a result of the merger on September 15, 2001 with Mars, Sloane & Conlon. Mr. Gruder's litigation expertise spans various areas of practice including real estate, zoning, first party property and casualty, as well as criminal defense.
In the area of real estate litigation, Mr. Gruder successfully obtained a dismissal of an Article 78 Proceeding involving a 116-unit development project in Ridge, New York, which was commenced by a coalition of civic associations alleging a SEQRA violation. In a matter involving first property and casualty insurance litigation, Mr. Gruder obtained a jury verdict in favor of the insureds against Liberty Mutual Insurance Company on the theory of "collapse" when buried trees decayed over a 24-year period, resulting in the drop on one side of plaintiffs' residence.
His experience in criminal law began with his position as a Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney from 1986 until 1992 where he served in the Narcotics Bureau from 1988 until 1992. Mr. Gruder obtained numerous felony convictions after trial on major narcotics cases.
He is admitted to practice in the State of New York and in the Eastern, Northern and Southern Districts of the Federal Courts in New York. A member of the New York and Suffolk County Bar Associations, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University in 1981 and a Juris Doctor from Syracuse University in 1985.
