Gordon Baird is a partner in our Business Law Group in Toronto. His practice is focused on lending and secured transactions. Mr. Baird regularly acts for bank syndicates, non-bank lenders and borrowers on domestic and cross-border loan transactions with a particular focus on the energy, hospitality and communications industries. His recent transactions include acting for the providers of the margin funding facility in connection with the restructuring of the Canadian non-bank asset backed commercial paper market, acting for a syndicate of lenders in connection with the construction of an ethanol plant and acting for a syndicate of lenders in connection with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool acquisition of Agricore United. Mr. Baird is recognized in the 2007-2011 edition of Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers as a leading lawyer in the area of banking and finance law. He also appears in the 2011 edition of the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, a guide to the leading law firms and practitioners in Canada, as a leading lawyer in the area of Banking (including Financial Institutions Regulatory Law). Mr. Baird appears in Best Lawyers Canada in the areas of banking and finance and project finance law. aMr. Baird serves as Chairman of the Board of Opera in Concert, is a member of the Regent Park Economic Development Advisory Board and the Canadian Bar Association. He is also chair of the McCarthy Tétrault National Pro Bono Committee. Mr. Baird received his BA (Economics) from Trinity College at the University of Toronto in 1986, and his LLB from the University of Toronto in 1989. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1991. |
