Grant Palmer has extensive trial and appellate experience in complex litigation matters, both civil and criminal in nature. He represents both corporations and individuals in a wide range of areas including:
· general commercial litigation, including breach of contract, civil RICO, and construction litigation
· bad faith and insurance coverage defense
· patent and intellectual property litigation
· corporate and shareholder litigation
· class actions
· personal injury and products liability defense
Mr. Palmer began his career as a federal law clerk to the Honorable Robert S. Gawthrop in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
In addition to litigation, Mr. Palmer devotes significant time to preventive counseling on behalf of clients including document retention and creation issues. Mr. Palmer has also conducted numerous corporate internal investigations. Mr. Palmer has recently been involved in numerous mediation and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in assisting clients to limit litigation expenses and exposure.
Mr. Palmer has presented on a variety of topics, including "Cloud Computing and Its Impact on Litigation."
Mr. Palmer is chair of Blank Rome's Pro Bono Committee. He has received the highest possible rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Representative Matters
· Food manufacturer in shareholder dispute involving control of the voting shares of the company; obtained trial victory and favorable rulings from Supreme Court of Pennsylvania on two separate occasions
· Travel company in multi-million dollar Unfair Trade Practices / Consumer Protection Act lawsuit; obtained summary judgment on behalf of client and prevailed on appeal before the Supreme Court of California
· Financial institution in lender liability lawsuit alleging millions of dollars in damages; obtained complete defense verdict following trial
· Patent holder in a patent enforcement matter involving method for sterilizing alcohol; obtained $1 million verdict
· Patent holder in prosecution of software patents which have resulted in settlements totaling over $25 million to date
· Death row inmate in post-conviction proceedings seeking to obtain new trial and reversal of death penalty
Community Service & Affiliations
Mr. Palmer is a recipient of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Michael K. Smith Excellence in Service Award. He regularly volunteers with numerous legal services organizations dedicated to providing equal access to the legal system for those in need. Mr. Palmer serves as a board member of the Homeless Advocacy Project. He is the immediate past chair of the Federal Courts Committee for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
