Gregory L. (Skip) Smith, Jr. is a Shareholder in the Atlanta, Georgia office of Jackson Lewis P.C.
Mr. Smith has represented employers before various federal and state courts in all types of employment litigation. He has successfully defended cases throughout the country involving claims of discrimination on the basis of race, sex, age, disability, religion, and national origin, as well as pay claims and claims of retaliation, wrongful termination, and breach of contract. Mr. Smith has extensive experience handling multi-plaintiff, class, and collective actions under Title VII and the Fair Labor Standards Act in various jurisdictions, and he is a member of the Firm's Wage and Hour Practice Group. In addition, Mr. Smith regularly advises companies in all areas of workplace law, including counseling and compliance matters, and handles administrative matters before federal and state agencies. Among others, he represents clients in the retail, healthcare, engineering, meat processing, automotive, and food service industries.
Following law school, Mr. Smith clerked for The Honorable Alex T. Howard, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.
Mr. Smith has contributed to various publications, including The Fair Labor Standards Act (Bureau of National Affairs, forthcoming 2010 supplement). In addition to his many community activities, Mr. Smith serves as the Pro Bono Coordinator for the Atlanta office and regularly provides pro bono legal assistance to non-profit organizations.
He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the American Bar Association, and the Stonewall Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before the Sixth and Eleventh Courts of Appeals; the Georgia Supreme Court; the Georgia Court of Appeals; the United States District Court for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia; and all Georgia State Courts.
Mr. Smith received his B.A. in Political Science from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia in 1993. He earned his J.D. from the Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1998.
