Gregory Petrick, Co-Chair of Cadwalader's Financial Restructuring Group and Managing Partner of the London office, has represented debtors, official unsecured creditors' committees, secured lenders, state regulators, and trustees in complex business reorganizations. His practice encompasses counseling secured and unsecured lenders, creditor committees, public bondholders, debtors, shareholders, and investors involved in many of the largest and most complex U.S. and international reorganizations and restructurings, financial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and litigation. Greg has played a major role in the restructuring, reorganization, sale, or acquisition of businesses in the life insurance, financial services, telecommunications, energy, real estate, shipping, and hospitality industries. He has also led cross-border restructurings across Europe, Indonesia and Australia.
A graduate of Boston University, summa cum laude, and Fordham Law School, Greg is admitted to practice in the State of New York and before the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York. He is also a registered foreign lawyer in England and Wales.
•Greg represented CIFG Holding Ltd, a monoline insurer in restructuring its exposure to ABS CDOs, which was recognized by the International Financial Law Review as the 2008 Restructuring Deal of the Year. He currently represents the Joint Provisional Liquidators of Lehman Re, bank lenders in the reorganization of TBS and Marco Polo Shipping, and MBIA in connection with the reorganization of Punch Taverns and the A13 Toll Road.
•Greg represented bank lenders in the restructuring of Residential Capital Funding and GMAC debt, and Northwest Airlines in chapter 11 proceedings. He also represented Xstrata in the sale of its North American aluminum assets, an ad hoc committee of bondholders of Calpine Canada Energy Finance ULC in chapter 11 proceedings and Canadian CCAA proceedings, the official committee of unsecured creditors of Mirant Americas Generation, LLC, and the ad hoc committees of bondholders in Protection One, Inc. and American Restaurant Group, Inc.
•In the past, Greg represented creditors' committees in Flag Telecommunications, Huntsman Corp., Dictaphone Corporation, Florida Coast Paper, and Golden Ocean Group, and aircraft financiers in the United Airlines bankruptcy. He also represented Bear Stearns, Lodgian Hospitality, Amer Reefer, and Glencore Party Nickel in debtor related work. Previously, Greg has played a leading role in the reorganization cases of Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company, Confederation Life Insurance Company, and The McGinnis Hedge Funds.
