Biography

Greg Young is Counsel in the firm's Nashville office where he is a member of the Environmental, Natural Resources & Energy Service Group. Greg's practice focuses on all aspects of environmental law. He regularly represents clients in permitting, rulemaking and contested case proceedings before the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC), and has defended clients against enforcement actions brought by TDEC and the federal EPA. He also has experience representing business clients in defense of environmental citizen suit and toxic tort claims in both state and federal courts. He is listed as a "Rising Star" in Mid-South Super Lawyers (2009-2011).

Recent Assignments

· Provide environmental permitting counsel to natural gas power plant development

· Advise landowners of environmental requirements in connection with development activities, including agricultural activities subject to agricultural exceptions

· Represent manufacturer regarding PCB compliance issues at multiple facilities

· Advise lenders of environmental issues in connection with loan management and foreclosure

· Represent industrial wastewater dischargers regarding compliance with NPDES and local pretreatment permits and discharge limitations.

· Provide counsel to multiple clients in connection with stream and wetland mitigation activities, including mitigation banks and in-lieu-fee programs

· Assist U.S. environmental commodities investor with carbon sequestration transactions in the Southeast

· Advise wetlands conservation organization regarding carbon sequestration activities, including acquisition of carbon rights from landowners and sale of carbon credits in private equity markets

· Provide legal opinion for federal utility Office of Inspector General regarding water access rights

· Represent utility district on water regional planning and water withdrawal issues before TDEC and Corps of Engineers

· Counsel companies during internal investigations and in response to federal government subpoenas

· Advise and assist business clients regarding environmental due diligence and permit transfers associated with corporate transactions

· Represent numerous clients with respect to stormwater and erosion control issues
