Biography

Greg Blount is a partner in the Environmental and Natural Resources Practice Group at Troutman Sanders LLP. He has broad experience representing clients in matters related to environmental law and policy for over 30 years, including related civil litigation and enforcement issues in state and federal courts. His experience includes work as national environmental counsel for a Fortune 100 company.

Greg's experience as both an Assistant Attorney General and sole in-house counsel to Georgia's Department of Natural Resources has led to representations involving all major environmental statutes in the U.S. For example, he was successful in bringing the State's first citizen suit under the combined authority of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and Clean Water Act. His representation of trade associations and local governments has led to successfully developing consensus for environmental and administrative rules governing water quality and sedimentation violations, animal feeding operations, stream buffers, coastal development, hazardous site remediation, solid waste permitting, hazardous waste management, wetlands permitting, and air regulations.

His representation of local governments has led to years of representation and advice on water supply issues, including multidistrict litigation known as the Tri-State Water Wars. His representation of business clients has successfully addressed issues arising in business transactions, including international trade and sustainability.
