Mr. James has extensive experience providing counsel on federal income tax issues, principally involving Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), corporations and partnerships, and has been significantly involved in tax-exempt and taxable bond transactions, including governmental issues and private activity bonds, as bond, underwriter's and borrower's counsel. Mr. James is recognized for his tax law experience in The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward White, Inc.).
Mr. James has extensive experience representing the mergers and acquisitions section of a regional investment banking firm. He also has represented clients in industry consolidation and acquisition activities in a broad range of industries, including engineering, financial services and computer software development. Mr. James' experience also includes working with international clients in Argentina, Costa Rica, Great Britain, Italy, Canada and India.
Before joining Waller Lansden, Mr. James was a member of Stites & Harbison and its predecessor, Farris, Warfield and Kanaday, PLC in Nashville, Tenn. From 1985 to 1998, Mr. James was a partner with Baker, Donelson, Bearman & Caldwell, P.C., serving as managing partner of the firm's Knoxville office from 1986 to 1989 and its Nashville office from 1993 to 1996. |
